The history of Pearly Beach dates back to the early 1920s and since then generations of families have come to spend their summer holidays camping and fishing on this seaside section of the original Kleinhagelkraal cattle farm. Today, many of these early visitors are permanent or weekend residents with houses overlooking their favourite playground.
The area is home to the threatened African oystercatcher which can be seen on the rocky coasts, beaches and at lagoons eating limpets and mussels.
Pearly, as locally known, is nestled between three large reserves. To the West is the Walker Bay Reserve (Die Gruis) which stretches all the way to Uilkraal. To the North, to Baardskeerdersbos, is the largely undeveloped Agulhas Reserve and to the east is Pearly Beach Nature Reserve. This unique scenario ensures a large area of indigenous “Fynbos” and a nature lovers paradise – largely untouched by man or “invasive species”.
